Position Description & Details:

The Department of Microbiological Sciences is seeking to fill a full-time bioinformatician position to support a new agribiome research initiative. This inititiative aims to harness soil, plant, and animal microbiomes to enhance crop and livestock production and human health. With several recent faculty hires, the department has a vibrant community of researchers pursuing excellence in microbiome science across the agroecosystem.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with departmental researchers, the bioinformatician will be responsible for establishing a unifying pipeline for analysis of large, high-throughput datasets from amplicon-sequencing, de novo genome sequencing, shotgun metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, and metabolomics. 

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday 8am-5pm

Advertised Salary:  $50,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in bioinformatics, data science, computational biology, microbiology, or a related field 
  • Fluency in R and programing languages such as Python
  • Experience working with datasets produced by high-throughput sequencing platforms such as Illumina, PacBio, and Oxford Nanopore
  • Experience working with metagenomics and/or metatranscriptomics datasets
  • Excellent time-management and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing bioinformatic pipelines to simultaneously support multiple research projects.
  • Experience maintaining a server
