The Qin lab (www.qinweilab.com) at the Department of Microbiology and Plant Biology of the University of Oklahoma studies the physiological adaptation and biogeochemical role of globally abundant nitrifying microorganisms in marine and terrestrial environments. We combine culture-based lab work and meta-omics-based analyses to characterize the novel physiological and metabolic adaptive features of biogeochemically significant nitrifying microorganisms. We are currently seeking a postdoc to join the team. The postdoc researcher will work on the enrichment, isolation, and genomic, physiological, and kinetic characterization of novel archaeal and bacterial nitrifying microorganisms. The newly cultivated species will serve as model or representative organisms for understanding the molecular and metabolic regulation of nitrifying prokaryotes in the environments.

A Ph.D. in Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Biological Oceanography, or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will have experience working with cultivation, chemostat operation, and comparative/functional genomics. Prior research related to the nitrification process would be helpful but is not required.

Please note that this is a one-year term full-time appointment, with a possible extension depending on job performances.
